STEP 1
In a clear glass container, place one egg.
STEP 2
Fill the container with vinegar, making sure your egg is fully submerged.
STEP 3
Wait 24 hours and change the vinegar.
STEP 4
Repeat until egg is translucent.
STEP 5
Watch your egg turn to rubber!
Conclusion
This is an easy experiment that shows what chemical reactions can do. Try using balsamic vinegar if you want a darker egg! You will know you are close to done when it no longer bubbles.
Extra Credit
The vinegar changes the composition of the egg because it is an acid. You can see this chemical reaction taking place as the egg will produce gas bubbles. After about four hours, the egg will start to float. Can you guess why?
