Toddler Time with Amethyst - Color Explorers Week 4 & GRADUATION!

About Toddler Time

Toddler Time with Amethyst is a weekly play-based early childhood program at Kidzeum designed specifically for children ages 1–3 and their caregivers. Each session is thoughtfully designed to support the whole child, weaving together art, sensory play, fine motor development, music, and movement into an experience that is both joyful and intentional.

Every session follows a warm, predictable rhythm that helps toddlers feel safe and ready to engage. We begin with a Welcome Song where we greet each child by name and find one another in the group. This is a simple ritual that builds connection and helps little ones settle into the group. From there, we move into a movement activity to get our bodies ready, then dive into the guided activity at the heart of each session. We close every session with a Goodbye Song that signals a safe, celebrated transition.

Each month of Toddler Time carries its own theme, and April is all about Color Explorers. Over four weeks, children will discover the world through the colors red, blue, yellow, and green — using each color as a playful entry point into sensory learning, early concepts, and creative expression.

Every session follows a warm, predictable rhythm that young children thrive on: we begin with a Welcome Song where we greet each child by name and find one another in the group — a relational practice that encourages focus and belonging. From there, we move into a movement activity to get our bodies ready, then dive into the guided activity at the heart of the day. Toddler Time is free with museum admission.  Children who participate in all four sessions will receive a Color Explorers Certificate of Completion, a special keepsake celebrating everything they explored, created, and discovered.

Week 4 — Green: Growing Green & Graduation Day! 🟢

Session Theme: Things That Grow + Color Explorers Celebration

We wrap up our April Color Explorers journey with green — the color of growing things, fresh starts, and the world waking up in spring. This final session of the month is both a rich learning experience and a gentle celebration: children who have attended across the month are recognized for their curiosity and participation, and everyone leaves with a sense of accomplishment. It is a full-circle moment for the children, caregivers, and Amethyst.

Welcome Song (~5 min) Amethyst opens by acknowledging the journey: “We’ve explored red, blue, and yellow — and today we discover the color that was hiding in two of them! We made green!” This connects back to last week’s color mixing moment and builds narrative continuity.

Movement Activity (~8 min) Growing Seeds. Children curl up small like little seeds and slowly, slowly “grow” into tall sunflowers, stretching arms wide, swaying in the breeze, then gently wilting back down. This movement sequence builds body awareness, sequencing, and imagination while anchoring the theme of green growing things.

Guided Activity (~25 min) Planting a Paper Garden. Children create a collaborative mural: each child adds their own green handprint “grass” or leaf to a large shared paper garden. Individual flower centers (painted the previous weeks’ colors: red, blue, yellow) are added to the garden, creating a visual callback to the entire month’s exploration. This cooperative art experience introduces early concepts of community and shared creation.

Sensory Component: A garden-themed sensory bin with potting soil (or kinetic sand), plastic bugs, flowers, scoops, and small pots gives children a grounding, earthy tactile experience. Many toddlers have had limited experience with soil — this is a safe, joyful introduction.

Celebration Moment (~10 min) Children who attended across the month receive their Color Explorers Completion Certificate in a brief, warm ceremony. Amethyst calls each child by name, celebrates what she observed in them over the month, and presents their certificate. All children receive a small take-home keepsake. This is intentionally low-key and centered on the child’s experience rather than performance.

Goodbye Song (~5 min) The closing song takes on special weight this week as a true farewell to the April series. Amethyst shares a preview of May’s theme — Shape Detectives — to build excitement and encourage families to return.

Take-Home Activity: Families receive the final take-home sheet: “Our Color Explorers Journal” — a simple four-page keepsake that summarizes all four weeks and invites children to draw or stamp their favorite color memory from the month. The parent tip sheet this week offers ideas for extending color learning through cooking, gardening, and reading together at home.

A Note from Amethyst

“This last session always will have my heart, and not because of the cute certificates, but because you can see how much these little kiddo’s have grown in just four weeks. The child who was barely able to put their finger into paint during the first week, is now able to tolerate it. The child who tucked themselves behind a caregiver during the welcome song is now shouting out their friends’ names like they have been doing it forever. That’s the real magic. The colors were just the doorway we walked through to get here.”
